Who we are
CheSchool is a chess school: the website cheschool.com, the web school at app.cheschool.com and the CheSchool apps for iPhone and Android. It is run by the makers of Dialr, and a CheSchool account is a Dialr account. Contact: support@cheschool.com.
In short: we keep only what the school needs to work, we sell nothing, and there are no ads and no tracking across sites or apps. The websites count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and shows us only totals; the apps have no analytics at all.
The website
cheschool.com is static. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising scripts. Fonts are served from our own server, not from Google Fonts. Your theme choice (dark or light) is kept in your browser’s local storage and never leaves your device.
Both sites are delivered through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address in order to deliver pages and block attacks. Our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, address requested, referring page and browser) for security and troubleshooting, for a limited time. If our Content Security Policy stops a page from loading something, your browser may send us a security report — the page address and what was blocked, without your IP address; we keep it in the same logs to find faults.
Visit statistics
On cheschool.com and app.cheschool.com, Cloudflare, which delivers both sites, adds its Web Analytics script to the pages. Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookies, uses no local storage and builds no profile of you. For each page view it records the page address, the referring page, the browser, operating system and device type, the country (from the IP address — but not to tell one visitor from another) and how fast the page loaded. We see only totals — for example, how many people opened a page today — never individual visitors, and we do not use them for advertising. The iPhone and Android apps do not load this script.
Your account
You can start as a guest: the school creates an account with a random ID and no personal details the first time you use a trainer. To keep your progress across devices you can add your phone number. We then send a one-time sign-in code by SMS, WhatsApp or Telegram, as shown on screen; the number goes to that service only to deliver the code. A guest has no name; an account with a number carries the name set in Dialr, if there is one.
Because the account is a Dialr account, the same number signs you in to the Dialr messenger. What the messenger itself stores is described in the Dialr privacy policy.
What we store on our servers
- the account: its ID, your phone number if you added it, the name from Dialr if there is one, and the sign-in sessions;
- course progress: lessons you have marked as read and endgames you have solved, so they follow you from the website to the app and back;
- training results: puzzle attempts and rating, the daily training streak, exams, openings and traps you have practised;
- games: games against the bot and against friends, with their moves, and the reviews of them;
- games imported from chess.com (see below).
We use this data only to run the school: to show your progress, rating and mistakes, and to pick your next lesson or puzzle. It is not used for advertising and is not sold or shared with advertisers. The servers are in Germany (EU).
What stays on your device
The school keeps in local storage your sign-in session, language, a copy of your course progress, games played offline that have not reached the server yet, reminder and coach settings. The web school also keeps an offline copy of the lessons you have opened. Signing out or deleting the account clears the session, the progress copy, unsent games and the offline lessons from that device. The chess engine for the bot and the trainers runs on your device; positions are not sent anywhere for that.
The iPhone and Android apps
The apps are the same school with the same account and the same data as above. They contain no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs and do not track you across other apps or websites. The coach speaks with your phone’s built-in voice; the text never leaves the device for that. If you turn on the daily reminder, the app schedules local notifications on the phone itself: no push server is involved and nothing about it is sent to us. You can turn them off on the daily training screen or in the phone’s settings. Apple and Google may give us aggregate download statistics and, if you allowed it in your device settings, anonymous crash reports.
The AI coach on the website
On the website the coach that talks you through a game can use an AI commentary and a natural voice. This happens only after you agree to it in the review, once per browser. Then the moves of that one game are sent to Anthropic (commentary) and OpenAI (voice) — the moves only, without your name, number or account. The apps do not use this.
Games from chess.com
If you enter your chess.com username, our server fetches your last 30 games through chess.com’s public API — the same data anyone can see on your chess.com profile. We never ask for your chess.com password. We store the username and those games (players, ratings, moves, result, date and clock times) in your account so that the school engine can review them. They are deleted together with your account. Please enter only your own username. CheSchool is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chess.com.
Playing a friend
When you invite a friend with a game link, whoever opens the link sees your account name, if it has one, and then plays the game with you; both players see its moves. Share the link only with the person you want to play.
Children
Children learn chess here too. A child under 13 — or under the age of digital consent in their country, which in the EU can be up to 16 — may use CheSchool only with the consent of a parent or guardian, and we ask parents to add the phone number themselves. A child can also use the school as a guest, without a phone number. We collect nothing beyond what is listed above, show no ads and have no public profiles or chat in the school. A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to see or delete a child’s data. If we learn that a child’s data was collected without that consent, we delete it.
Legal basis and your rights
We process the data listed above to provide the school you asked for (performance of a contract), the AI coach and reminders on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time, and access logs, security reports and visit statistics on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and knowing which pages are used. You have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, to object to its processing and to complain to a data protection authority. Write to support@cheschool.com.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account in the school itself: Profile → Delete account, on the website or in the app. This removes the account and everything listed above from our servers, including imported chess.com games, and clears the data on that device. If the account has a phone number, it is the Dialr account for that number, so deleting it also deletes your messenger account. You can also delete the account from the Dialr app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or by writing to support@cheschool.com; a request by email is completed within 30 days.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
